Poker, also called “Cavelong”, is an internet word game from the land down under Australia, where the name comes from “pot”. Poker is any of any number of card games where players wagered over which hand is most fair based on the rules of the game. In this sense, poker has no rules.
Players make their bets in front of a dealer or in private. They make their bets by writing down on a playing card, known as a “blind” or a “poker card”, an amount of money equal to the amount of chips kept in the pot. Then these chips are passed around from player to player, or player to dealer, until all players have had their turn and have had their bets made. When all players have had their turns, the blinds are called out and the winning player(s) are awarded their chips.
At the end of the game, the pot is split among the players who have had their bets made, and the player with the biggest pot wins. No matter how much money is involved, poker is a game where everyone involved knows the outcome beforehand. Unless there are three special cards, called “trumps”, in the regular deck, there is no way for any player to predict what the outcome will be before the cards are dealt. Thus, no matter how many players are involved in a game, each player has the same chances of winning.
All games of regular poker follow the same pattern. Before the final round of betting begins, the dealer will deal five cards to each table and place the blinds face up in the center of the table. The dealer will then deal five cards to each table and place the blinds face down on the table. After the final round of betting has ended, the dealer will deal seven cards to each table, then cover the blinds with another playing card and shuffle the deck.
Two Pair: During the first two rounds of betting, each player is dealt a hand consisting of either a premium hand or a normal hand. After the two pair is dealt, the person with the highest hand usually takes the lead and continues betting, counting up to the maximum number of players involved in the game and the total betting amount for that round. Once the final round of betting has ended, the pot becomes two pairs larger than the starting amount. If there is still a tie, a new round will begin. This process continues until someone wins the pot. If no one wins the pot after the second round of betting, the pot is folded and starts again in the third round.
Flop: On the flop, each player contributes four starting chips to the pot before the flop, and another four starting chips after the flop. At the end of the flop, the last player standing has the chance to call, raise, or fold. The player with the highest hand at the end of the flop is the winner of the pot. Before the turn, each player is required to put at least one card from his hand into the pot. No player may use more cards than are in the pot, including those in the draw pile. When the time comes to reveal your cards, the dealer will count and calculate the exact number of poker hands.
